THE COLUMBIAN
History updated for today
Located near the Prudential Center - where concerts and sporting events are held - and Newark Penn Station, the Columbian is a unique and beautiful mixed-use project that is ideally situated for upscale city living. The building itself was built in 1890 and it has housed stores, manufacturing, and warehousing operations during its long history. The original western half of the building was a family-owned restaurant. The eastern addition housed a store, originally constructed in 1909. The structure now has 72 apartment units - all boasting modern and sleek amenities - and the entire first floor is dedicated to the famous restaurant chain, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. The building’s chief characteristics are its distinctive dark red brick facade, elegant brick moulding, and rooftop terraces. The interiors are loft-like spaces that feature large windows and stainless steel appliances. Besides the brick, the building still retains original floor tiles and charming, mosaic Wainscoting.
